when the pandemic first hit millions of canadians were forced to change the way they work and now nearly half a year later yep half a year later many are still working from home and we’re already seeing a shift in the economy so our jacqueline hansen takes a look now at what could happen if these changes become permanent this isn’t the home this couple planned to buy just six months ago we were hunting a two bedroom condo in core downtown so we could just walk to our office every day then the pandemic hit and they both started working remotely my meeting she could hear she could get disturbed and like and vice versa their employers say they’ll keep working from home most of the time even after the pandemic so instead of a condo for the same price they bought a four bedroom house outside of toronto there is enough space we could just get up one day and decide to work from any part of the house data from real osophy shows sales of houses in the greater toronto area in august jumped more than 50 percent from the same time last year some of that is pent-up demand but it’s still far higher than the pickup in sales of condos a lot of people are looking for more space and practically all of my clients are nowadays working from home and according to adp canada 45 percent of canadians it surveyed would keep it that way at least three days a week it seems remote work is here to stay or at least the majority of us want it to be there’s a willingness to have a discussion about a fundamental change in the way we work and it calls into question everything that we’ve been doing for the last 30 years this commercial real estate broker expects demand for total office space to drop by 25 percent or more i would venture to say that every company every organization in the world is suddenly reevaluating their need for space and forcing others into a difficult new reality if we don’t have the core you know this office tower full and people coming down for lunch then you know that’s everything for us sales at this toronto restaurant are down 70 percent when the patio closes for the winter and if workers don’t come back downtown we can’t pay rent we can’t afford to pay rent it feels scary to be honest with you i’m very worried worried a shift away from the city center could also wipe out livelihoods of those left behind sorry jacqueline hansen cbc news toronto
The basic problem with working in an office is you’re just not in control of your work environment. [The Way We Work] Howdy, my name is Matt, and I’m the CEO of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, Jetpack and WooCommerce. We’re coming up on over 800 employees, and they live everywhere, from California to Alabama, Mississippi, to where I live in Texas. They’re also in 67 countries. Canada, Mexico, India, New Zealand. Some of them choose not even to have a home base, they’re nomads. Whether they are in RVs or traveling through Airbnbs, they are in new places every day, week or month. As long as they can find good Wi-Fi, we don’t care where they are. Our focus on distributed work didn’t happen accidentally. It was a conscious choice from the very beginning. Notice I don’t use the word “remote,” because it sets up the expectation, that some people are essential and some aren’t. I use the word “distributed” to describe what we do, where everyone is on an equal playing field. I think a distributed workforce is the most effective way to build a company. The key is you have to approach it consciously. When we started WordPress, many of the first 20 hires were people I’d never met in person. But we’d collaborated online, sometimes for years. I wanted to continue that for one simple reason. I believe that talent and intelligence are equally distributed throughout the world. But opportunity is not. In Silicon Valley, the big tech companies fish from essentially the same small pond or bay. A distributed company can fish from the entire ocean. Instead of hiring someone who grew up in Japan but lives in California, you can gain someone who lives, works, wakes up and goes to sleep wherever they are in the world. They bring a different understanding of that culture and a different lived experience. At the base of the decision to go distributed, there’s a desire to give people autonomy over how they do their work. Unless you’re in a role where specific hours are important, you can make your own schedule. Everyone can have a corner office, their windows, the food they want to eat, you can choose when there’s music and when there’s silence. You can choose what temperature the room should be. You can save the time you’d spend commuting and put it into things that are important to you. A distributed workforce is ideal for a technology company. But people often ask me, “This works great for y’all, but what about everyone else?” If you have an office, you can do a few things to build distributed capability.
First: document everything. In an office, it’s easy to make decisions in the moment, in the kitchen, in the hall. But if people work remotely and some members of the team are having those conversations they don’t have access to, they’ll see these decisions being made without understanding the why. Always leave a trail of where you were and what you were thinking about. This allows others to pick up where you left off. It allows people in different time zones to interact, it’s also great to think about as an organization evolves, people leaving and people joining. Try to have as much communication as possible online. When everything’s shared and public, it allows new people to catch up quickly. You also need to find the right tools. There are so many apps and services that help with day-to-day communication, video conferencing, project management. The things that changed how you work probably aren’t objects anymore. They’re things you access through your computer. So experiment with different tools that enable collaboration, see what works. Create productive, face-to-face time. In a traditional office, you’re in the same place 48 weeks out of the year and you might have three or four weeks apart. We try to flip that: we come together for short, intense bursts. Once a year we do a grand meet-up where the entire company comes together for a week. It’s half-work, half-play. The primary goal is connecting people. We want to make sure everyone’s aligned and on the same page, and they have a deeper connection with their colleagues. When they work together the rest of the year, they can bring together that understanding and empathy. And the final practice: give people the flexibility to make their own work environment. Every person at Automattic has a co-working stipend that they can put towards a co-working space or just to buy coffee, so they don’t get kicked out of the coffee shop. One group in Seattle decided to pool their stipends together and rented a workspace on a fishing pier. Each person who joins the company gets a home-office stipend. This is money they can invest in getting the right chair, monitor, the right desk setup, so they can have the most productive environment for them. Today, there are just a few companies that are distributed first. In a decade or two, I predict that 90 percent of companies that are going to be changing the course of the world are going to function this way. They will evolve to be distributed first, or they’ll be replaced by those that are. As you think about what you’re going to build next, consider how you can tap into global talent, give people autonomy to live and work where they feel they should and still participate fully in whatever it is that you’re creating together.
Generally speaking, we spend our day to day lives in a relatively small number of locations. And however the specifics of those places might vary from person to person, they’re universal enough that we can refer to them as such. The home. The gym. The park. The office. That one in particular is interesting, because whether it makes you think of a never-ending maze of battery-farm style cubicles, or an open plan, fun loving, dog friendly workplace, ‘the office’ is a universal concept because it’s been central to the majority of jobs for over half a century. But as high speed internet has increased in reliability and availability, this has started to change, with the idea of working from your own home becoming both more viable and more popular. This has been reflected by the advent of applications like Slack and Microsoft Teams, software designed to provide businesses with centralised communication platforms, connecting individuals wherever they are. But the shift has still been a relatively slow one, with many companies being reluctant to embrace such a drastic departure from the traditional working environment. As recently as 2019, in a report compiled by Deloitte, only around 50% of global companies felt that managing employees on a remote basis would be a future trend for their business. And obviously, not much has changed since 2019. Oh wait… EVERYTHING has changed. In early 2020 with the onset of lockdowns and social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses quickly realised that office environments were no longer logistically sustainable, and scrambled to move huge numbers of their employees from office settings to remote working.
The result was a rapid acceleration of what had previously been a very gradual transition, cramming what might have been the next decade of progress into a few short months. It’ll be awhile until the long term consequences of this are clear, but what is notable is the positivity of the general reaction, with almost 60 percent of Americans who started working from home during the pandemic saying they would prefer to continue doing so, once it had ended. And workers weren’t the only ones convinced: Twitter, Facebook and many other companies indicated a willingness to allow more employees to work from home in the future. I understand this positive reaction, from both sides. Personally I’ve been working from home for ten years, and managing teams remotely for a big chunk of that time, so I’ve seen most of the benefits first hand. More comfortable surroundings, fewer distractions, no dress code – ok, well a more relaxed dress code. And perhaps the biggest benefit? No commute. Less wasted time. Time not spent working, but not spent with your loved ones either. All of these elements add up to a less stressful and more productive working environment, which is great – for individuals, but also for their employers. In the past many businesses have been skeptical about letting their employees work from home – they imagine them sitting around watching TV in the middle of the day. And obviously there is a level of trust involved in remote working. But if employers can embrace the idea that quality and volume of work have only a partial relation to the number of hours their workers spend on the clock, then they can begin to recognise that affording their employees more autonomy can ultimately work in their favour. And there are other benefits for them too. More working from home means fewer office expenses, and a widened talent pool, that isn’t just restricted to the residents of a handful of large cities. This can be a win for everyone. Now none of this is to say that remote working doesn’t come with its share of challenges.
The work/life balance is a notoriously difficult one to strike, and inevitably there’s a level of personal discipline involved in implementing the structure lost when the physical divide between the two is gone. It’s also important not to diminish the value of face-to-face interactions. It shouldn’t be a surprise that working from home can be an isolating experience, in a social sense as well as in regard to maintaining relationships within a team. So going fully remote probably isn’t ideal either. But the opportunity that the COVID-19 pandemic has given us, to reassess how often we really need to be in the same place, is a valuable learning experience. There have been plenty of occasions in the past when I’ve travelled literally thousands of miles to attend meetings some of which have been crucial face to face interactions, but plenty of which could easily have been conducted via Zoom. And being forced to rethink this from first principles could allow us to completely rebuild our working strategies – for the better. This is still a relatively new paradigm, and whether we’re talking about the personal challenges for individuals or the logistical obstacles for businesses, there are clearly still issues to be resolved. But it’s obvious, now more than ever before, that remote working is a viable and valuable option for the future of business. And that coming out the other side of a global crisis, this is at least one area in which there is less to be gained from a return to normality, than there is from looking to the future.
now when you talk of future of work i simply like stating it in this way the future work is remote work and when i’m talking of the future it’s happening now so i think we might remove that word future because it’s actually happening now because with the coved 19 pandemic uh we have what you call accelerated digital transformation which which has been caused by kovi 19. so essentially what we’ll have as the future of work it will be adaptive and flexible you know and when you’re talking of remote work let’s not confuse it with uh working from home yes because people have been saying oh work from home you know remote work those are very two different things yes and if we are able to differentiate that then we will be able to understand what the future of work means work from home is a convenience you know when i give you some work and probably uh you you’re stuck in traffic and then you decide let me work from home it’s a choice you’re making out of convenience but remote work is a culture for example right now uh you’ve noticed a trade whereby employers are giving a clause of remote work is for
hello everyone welcome to the remote working series my name is Francesco and I’m going to be your host over a series of videos talking about remote work now in today’s feature we’re going to start with the basics we’re going to be talking about what is remote work and some of the benefits now before we get started I just wanted to thank our sponsor hive ties is a leading project management software helping teams become more productive every single day with an integrated chat flexible project views of project templates and hundreds of other useful features teams can be more productive in their daily routine as a special offer hive is offering you guys the subscribers 10% off using the code remote work I did a full review of highs which will be available in the YouTube cards above and in the description below so remote work is also known as telecommunication it was actually started in the naughty 2000 era when there was an introduction to the Internet and sort of wireless communication tools so when that sort of started whirling out a lot of companies started working out do we actually need people in the office and can they work from anywhere now remote work at the moment in the u.s. is fairly popular with about 6.6 percent of the what US workforce actually being involved that’s about nine point four million people in the US alone companies that have adopted remote work companies like Apple Google Microsoft and a lot of other leading companies in the tech space a lot of them have seen a potential of remote work and implemented it within their company culture there are obviously tons of benefits to working remotely and they include noon commute time so you don’t necessarily have to travel to work there’s a less cost to the business so for example with office space with attire with events

[Music] hello everyone i’m stuart oliver co-founder and director of rustic tech and today’s video is going to be a bit of a serious one but talking about a topic that is very very important and that is working from home so during the last year and a half now time has been flying by super quick we’ve all been experiencing a level of work from home across australia and for people like myself and angel co-founding rested tech and rested group as well as our entire team in melbourne quite a few of us have been in lockdown for over 200 plus days it’s been something that we’ve got quite a lot of lessons from and learning and today i wanted to actually discuss about the six principles to working from home during covert 19. so the first principle from the government is you are not working from home you are at home trying to work i think that’s very important and something that you need to keep in mind and that’s the mindset you need to have that this is a very challenging time and it’s not work from home it’s working during a crisis and you’re trying to make your best of it definitely have that mindset when you’re thinking about working from home and start with that principle so principle number two is your personal and physical mental and emotional health is far more important than anything else right now and i totally agree with that 100 and this is something i’ve seen from angel co-founder and even myself but in the instance of angel her line of work is extremely creative and about generating ideas and trying to be in the right mindset whilst you’re in a lockdown is really really hard it is super important to make sure that you take breaks try and get exercise even if it’s things like looking up youtube or looking up new health routines or looking up things that are going to keep your mental health and well-being in check please do that that is the most important thing that you can do so principle number three you should not try to compensate for lost productivity by working longer hours this is something i was extremely guilty of last year and something that i bought into this year and made sure that i’m not pushing and just working 24 7. you must make sure that you take break make sure you reset be realistic about what you can achieve in a day
and make sure you end at a certain time and go and enjoy life with your family or call friends or get in the limited amount of exercise you can it’s super crucial otherwise you’re just gonna burn yourself out so please make sure you do that principle number four is you will be kind to yourself and not judge how you are coping based on how you see others coping this point is something that i am very mindful of and i can again speak to personal experience from myself and my business partner and wife angel so for me i must take some breaks during the day i’ve just gotta get out i’ve gotta go for a walk gotta take these breaks otherwise i just burn out and i cannot do any more whereas angel on the other hand she likes to work and once she’s in a train of thought and on a roll she’ll sometimes go for a day or two and not need to go outside and not take these breaks i found it actually i was judging myself that maybe i’m not working hard enough or maybe i’m not coping but really just understanding that everybody’s different everybody has their own way of working and don’t judge yourself or judge others based upon that so principle number five is you will be kind to others and not judge how others are coping based on how you are coping this is just something i think should be a principle all the time whether you’re in a crisis period or not always be mindful that everyone has their own set of circumstances this one reminds me of some advice i got very early on in my career from one of my coaches and he said you never know what’s happening with anyone at any point in the day they could be dealing with illness personal circumstances they could be dealing with a divorce or something tragic happening in their life for death in the family and you should never judge how people are coping at any point in time based on purely because how you feel you need to be kind to others and understand that they have many things going on and everybody is different and just be kind to everyone the final principle principle number six is your team’s success cannot be measured by how it was before and this is true you need to be really realistic with the goals you’re setting each week each month each quarter from a team perspective as well as yourself everybody has many things going on and i’ve seen from our team that people have families at home they have kids they’re homeschooling they have many things going on and we need to be realistic about how much people can get done within a certain period of time and allow for flexibility and you yourself you need to understand that if you’re struggling or you’re behind that that’s okay just let people know let your team know reset expectations and everyone will understand and you make sure that your team is achieving goals so that concludes the six principles to working from home during a crisis i hope this was useful or a value to you certainly if you’re in any of the rest of group companies or anyone out there watching this feel free to reach out to myself or reach out to angel cindy or even reach out to abraham who is a head of culture if you want to have a chat or if you need support or you just want someone to talk with we’re here and we’d love to hear from you even comment on this if you want to start a conversation we’re here to help and if we’re not the right people to talk to we’ll certainly be able to help you find the right people or be able to recommend a certain path or someone to talk with so thank you for watching this video hope you’re all keeping well and stay safe out there bro [Music] you

because this is a huge market editing texts and just helping foreigners with their English just the converse practice English online activity number three software testing and this is something I found out about when I moved to Silicon Valley and the thing is with software testing you only need like maybe three or four months to learn it some people take a year but again it depends on how good you are with the computer but in order to start learning QA testing you just need to be good with computer know how to search internet know how to create folders you know know how to use word in Excel and people make so much money like this is a number one profession in Silicon Valley for those who don’t have computer science education and want to do something with tech because the salaries are pretty high and again as I mentioned you can learn it pretty fast so for example there is this burden of computer school started by a fellow Russian he started at 20 years ago he actually moved to Silicon Valley in the 90s and realized this is something he could do and then he started doing it started a school they had more than a thousand students from all over the world and they have different programs like the only loss only costs a thousand dollars and you learn everything about software testing they’ll also help you with your resume and if you’re here in Silicon Valley and we want to do it offline you pay forty five hundred dollars and you get the offline full time course and internship in a local company so you get work experience and I checked on Glassdoor and by the way Glassdoor is one of the best resources to find how much people are earning and QA engineer remote QA engineer so you can work from home makes sixty three thousand dollars a year which is again like if I were in Russia and I did this sixty-three thousand dollars we were like a lot of money I’m telling you a profession number four is a landing page designer there are so many small businesses out there and there are so many tools to create landing pages like Wix comm instapage com so you basically do not need to know how to code you just drag and drop things and I’ve done so many landing pages for língua trip when I first did it it took me like maybe two hours when I did it last time two weeks ago it took me thirty minutes because I know everything so once you master that skill you can just do you know till ending pagers the day and I checked out a web site called fiverr.com it started as a website where you could get any job done for five dollars but now they’ve transformed their idea a little self the prices range from $5 to you know hundreds and there are different postings of people who can create a landing page for you and the price ranges from $50 to $100 so again if you make like five landing pages per day you can make $500 again depends on your skills students on how much you like it and I think you need to have some of like taste for ux/ui the design how everything looks like then you just help people save their time and small businesses can concentrate on selling and you can help them create the website web designers the next profession the next skill copywriting if you love texts then listen carefully every business is now concentrated on creating content cuz content is King content is how you find clients content is how you educate them first there is a huge demand for good texts for different web sites in different languages like lingua trade was translated into six languages so we need tax in all of them there are Instagram bloggers and Instagram is this platform which started as a platform where you just post pictures and now is transforming to a platform where you post a picture and you have to give some content like you have to write a good text and give people some value and these stacks are not coming from nowhere they not just oh here’s the text it’s really a lot of effort like I’m not a writer and I would spend like maybe half an hour per Instagram post
just for the text and there is an additional photo part so it takes a lot of time I would not be able to write all of the articles for a website so we constantly look for good copywriters and there are constantly thousands of companies out there looking for good copywriters and Instagram bloggers like not every single blogger can write good texts well Kinsey copywriter the next video editor somebody who I started to look for maybe when I was six months into YouTube because first again I had no education in view at nothing I just filmed a video with my iPhone took my iPhone open the iMovie and try to crop it and you know what try and do a video in iMovie it comes out so good the the program is really the the soft is really easy if really easy to understand really easy to work with and then you get magic so there’s so many people who are starting YouTube blogs and professional video companies charge oh my god I just realized they charge like fifteen thousand dollars per video you don’t have to do that although if you’re professional you can totally go that way but if you just want some freelance income and wanna help people edit some videos like beginner YouTube bloggers fifteen dollars an hour twenty dollars an hour on average it takes like five to six hours to edit a video again you’re gonna work on create your portfolio and you know another thing for everyone doesn’t matter what job you’re looking at start with creating a portfolio on some of the websites and you can do some jobs for free maybe you have clients maybe you don’t maybe you’re just studying out do some jobs for free like for a review so you can get a five star rating maybe like three or four of them and then organic orders will start coming in some of the soft for video editing that I would advise iMovie then Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas this is what we youtubers use a lot the next photo editing I just found this blogger millions of subscribers Peter McKinnon he teaches you how to edit photos so they can look really really good so all you need to start photo edit you can actually start with the easiest soft like that is free vsco Lightroom is free for for the iPhone what else there you Snapseed all of the apps and again there are so many Instagram bloggers there are so many companies that are starting Instagram and if you would help them make it look more professional better with a better layout better colouring they would hire you a hundred percent so again you can start experimenting with your own Instagram because I guess Instagram would be the platform where you would sell your services and I would advise you to make your Instagram look good and then try to DM but on Instagram reach out to them and say hey this isn’t how my profile looks like I see that you’re trying to sell through Instagram but your photos are not really well don’t say that tell them you can improve their performance by 30 or 40 percent and you’re willing to do it for free for a week again you’re doing this review and for your experience and then you will just start collecting money basically 30% of our employees of my team came from this kind of thing when they just reach out on social media helped me for free and I realize they’re really good and I just hire them so this is my advice for you on how to make the first steps I use the magic of photo editing software if you realize that a photo editing you love it video editing you love it maybe blogging is something you would love to do and vlogging is this thing that doesn’t have a limit so on all of the other jobs that I’m mentioning here yes you are limited by your time but your skills etc with YouTube once you post a video it can go viral and you can get millions of views so there is no limit one of my friends yeah 700,000 followers on his YouTube channel and his videos get over a million views every time you post some of his videos get like 50 million views he does kids content and he makes $40,000 a month it lives a happy life it pays a lot of taxes though and yeah enjoys his life in Florida and does really nothing like two videos a month he understands that this is not a job that he could maintain throughout his life but this is a great source of income he’s in his 30s then enjoys life makes some savings speaking of pimples let’s roll so if you have this urge to talk about something don’t postpone like the best time to start is now take out your phone and start recording boast a couple of videos you don’t have to start making income straight away like I got my first hundred dollar check from YouTube
when I was six months into my Russian Channel and I had like 10,000 followers it wouldn’t start coming in really fast but once you start growing the checks will be bigger and bigger but you cannot start blogging just for the sake of making money cuz you know gonna love it but if you love to talk go ahead YouTube is the best platform you can also start at Instagram it pay for the views but again you can sell stuff through Instagram later or get paid ads see your library another job that requires no education at all just basic knowledge of computer and research skills some things that I’ve used a lot called virtual assistant back in 2015 when we just came to Silicon Valley and decided to start fundraising we needed a list of investors who invested in education so I went to an upwork.com looked for virtual assistants found that girl in Thailand who charged I don’t remember but was like five dollars a per hour and she walked for ten hours I paid her $50 she came up with a list of sixteen masters who were really happy and I also realized that if I hired somebody in California in California the minimum wage per hour is fifteen dollars I would have paid a lot a lot more and this is why so many people in America outsource the tasks outsourcing college it’s a brilliant idea because they pay less but at the same time when you’re in a country with lower income you make so much money actually you make a lot more that you would have made if you worked offline in a you know regular 9:06 job by the way for all of the jobs that are mentioned here you don’t have to quit your job you do your 906 or sorry either your 9:00 to 5:00 come back home eat your dinner and dedicate a couple more hours to something that you’re really passionate about something that you love and something that might transform your life and create a whole new career for you assistant yeah virtual okay and the last but not the least something really particular something that is not really widely spoken about I picked this idea from Gary Vaynerchuk one of my favorite bloggers you got your perspective and I realized I’ve actually done it already this is called like starting a small a based or what he’s just doing if you live in a country with garage sales like America has a lot of garage sales you go there people sell their things like one or two dollars and they are worth a lot more I’ll tell you my story 2015 we moved to Mountain View we had $2,000 for everything we had a one-bedroom apartment three people and I had to buy all the furniture like everything for apartment for $2,000 soand on a garage sale and people were selling like all the kitchen utensils for one or two dollars I got a lot of them brought them home and then in six months we needed to move out and we went back to Russia so I started selling all of that stuff and actually sold then with a markup like fifty one-hundred percent markup and this is what you can do so Gary does this serious way he just goes on Saturday buys a lot of stuff and then resells it on eBay and he says you can make like 500 1000 extra dollars a week I heard it garage sales said that was it from you guys I hope you enjoyed this content if this was useful for you and you think you’re gonna apply some of the device in your real life please please please like this video leave a comment below if you’ve ever tried a freelance job and what it was because maybe it will be a great idea for my next video so your freelance so waiting for your comments if you’re not says yes subscribe to this channel hit subscribe and again all you need to start is your computer maybe your phone sometime one or two hours and most important desire to make more money to live a better life and to do more cool stuff so you have everything now go ahead and start working I’ll see you in the next logs bye
my personal belief is that this is a sea change there is no going back to status quo if one company tries they’re going to be met with 10 others that have maintained the experiment so i think we’ve turned a corner when i fled the office in march 2020 i left a half empty coffee cup on my desk like a slob and i left my gym bag under my chair i remember thinking who knows what’s next but i’ll come back for that later turns out i would have to buy new running shoes this past year flipped all of our lives upside down and now that vaccinations are proving to be incredibly effective they’re flipping upside down once more these days i know how to quarantine how to wear a mask how to socially distance and how to work from home during a global pandemic but experts say that we failed to face the pandemic head-on and will now need to live with the chronovirus being eternally endemic which means that with many companies mine included bringing workers back to the office this fall i now need to learn how to work from the office during a global pandemic in april 2020 70 of americans were working remotely according to gallup today that share is closer to 56 even though 61 percent say they’d prefer to be working from home and now workers are quitting their jobs at the highest rates in 20 years in fact it’s the highest rate ever reported by the bls four million people quit their jobs in april 2021 alone my name is abigail johnson-hess you all can call me aj i’m a multimedia reporter for cnbc make it and this is what’s next if anyone can tell us about the future of work it’s brian well google’s vice president of people analytics and amy webb amy is the founder of the future
today institute she’s also a professor of strategic foresights at nyu student school of business and a visiting fellow at oxford university said school of business she’s a quantitative futurist which means she uses data to build models to find emerging trends and then uses that info to find plausible outcomes so i wanted to talk to get her take to see if the changes the pandemic made on work culture would actually stick hey there how’s it going it’s going well how are you doing i recently moved but uh i’m currently thinking about whether or not i should unpack my my formal wear for work my boss is preparing me to come back to the office i feel like i have to relearn how to do that all over again this has been on a lot of people’s minds um what does the future of the office look like what does that footprint look like where is it what’s the work from home configuration for teams and how do we manage our re-entry into the world of the physical and the living a lot of companies that are allowing hybrid work aren’t allowing people to to work from home monday and friday so what does that tell us about the future of transit um it means tuesday through thursday is going to be hell for anybody who’s trying to commute with a car and what does that mean well that’s a signal for local cities you know administrations who could right now be adjusting what those traffic patterns look like but we know they’re not doing that right so i think we’re looking for like there’s gonna be gridlock in ways that we just haven’t seen before and haven’t anticipated but the changes to the way we work are much deeper than how many days we go into the office or what rush hour looks like i do think one of the outcomes of covid is a lot more people working in fractional roles so this is somebody who might work for four companies or five companies giving each one 10 hours a week and our work relationships will also change we are all going to have to relearn how to socialize and get along with one another which unfortunately could lead to more conflicts in the office i’m not comfortable predicting what the future of work is totally going to look like i am absolutely comfortable predicting the prevalence of more and more viruses in our lives what are we going to do are we going to keep having this debate and this discussion about vaccines the answer is yes and in this country we’re going to wind up with a bifurcation that cuts across weird socioeconomic religious educational spaces but is very deeply rooted to misinformation and webb says that the fraught political and cultural climate of the past year will not just disappear when we return to the office we are coming off of the killing of george floyd that hasn’t been resolved we have a lot of underlying tensions um that had nothing to do with the pandemic that we’re all gonna have to contend with once we’re back in each other’s presence webb says
that the next 24 months will be a sort of disorienting phase a kind of puberty as we awkwardly try and return to the office mask acne and all so i spoke with brian well he’s the vice president of people analytics at google and he’s a data guy who constantly thinks about how workers are feeling and what makes workers most productive and if any company is on the bleeding edge of the future of work it’s google i wanted to know if productivity didn’t drop why do we need to go back to the office at all we saw that productivity and performance did actually shift as we were shifting into new ways of working we very quickly like geared up our survey infrastructure to reach out to our employees and ask them critical questions along the way and one of them was a very simple question about productivity i regularly reach high levels of productivity and it’s a question we had asked in the past in our in our surveys and in the first couple of weeks of everyone shifting to working from home the responses plummeted by 15 points or more but as google continued to survey its employees brian saw an upward trajectory as his team acclimated to working from home it didn’t take long for productivity to reach pre-pandemic levels the first thing that we learned is that only talking about productivity really doesn’t meet the employee where they’re at productivity is important but i will not say to my team we were amazingly productive how great it is that we can continue to be productive going forward because even though that’s true the reaction is yeah but can we also talk about the toll it took on me can we talk about what i didn’t get from my co-workers and from you when we were in the space of not connecting where we ended up as a company is offering as much flexibility as we could to enable google employees to optimize for themselves while also giving teams what they needed a default option that we think most employees are going to take advantage of which is coming into the office three days a week and working from another location two days a week it lets you do all the things we came to love about working from home while also getting that moment of connection and the ability to do innovative work in person in the office what what google’s thinking is the way it’s going to make the most people happy is giving them more control right is saying here’s the general framework but after this crazy year where you felt like you’ve had control of nothing we’re gonna let you control where you work mondays and fridays or
whatever day so not to get too you know philosophical but but what do you think that control does for you know workers who might be struggling after this past year for many employees there was this sort of anxiety about what comes next so all of the tough decisions that you made to get through the last year if you feel as though google can unravel all of that by requiring you to come into the office five days a week that’s the source of anxiety control i think is actually a sense of relief when it came to work productivity where can i do my best thinking when where can i do my best coding where can i be like do my best work you’ve got some people who say from home some people who say from the office and almost an equal percentage of them who said it doesn’t matter so wouldn’t it be easy if like it were nice and simple about the way that you could categorize people into one or the other and it’s not that way is there a solution for those companies who can’t kind of go to the end of the earth that it seems like google’s going to to try and make as many people as happy as possible yeah this is one of those things that i don’t think money is the biggest issue for many of them so let me just acknowledge that many google employees aren’t going to get what they want either because they might be in a job that requires them to work in a particular location we are hoping that most people can find what they’re looking for but there are actual role constraints and job constraints and business constraints that that dictate a little bit so it’s not like we’ve created this environment where everybody just gets everything that they want it’s complicated take me a picture what are going to be some of the big changes physically to people’s offices the reasons that people need to be in the office like when you really get down into what kind of work are they doing um a lot of it is around collaboration innovation the social part of work and so what google is doing now is like looking at our workspace and say how can we optimize it for those kinds of activities google’s new configuration reads as if it were written in a science fiction novel at google’s new campfire spaces in-person attendees sit in a circle interspersed with impossible to ignore large vertical displays so virtual participants are on the same footing as those physically present think star trek brian says we simply are not going back to what work was like before in part because companies like google still need to compete for talent and after workers survived the past year many put a premium on flexibility and control my personal belief is that this is a sea change there is no going back to status quo if one company tries they’re going to be met with 10 others that have maintained the experiment so i think i think we’ve turned a corner an exciting one
in this video I’m going to show you eight of the best work from home jobs available right now then will allow you to earn money from anywhere in the world and don’t require to have lots of previous experience or qualifications and I’m also going to show you how and where you can apply for all of these jobs and give you a few tips on getting started in each one all you need is a basic computer and an internet connection work from home jobs or remote jobs that are also known are a great way to earn extra income on the side of a full-time job or they can even be used as a stepping stone into becoming a full-time remote worker and ditching the nine-to-five all together they’re also really good for people with full-time commitments such as parents and carers who want to earn a bit of extra income and need the flexibility to work around their other commitment so whatever your goals are my aim with this video is really just to show you a number of work from home job options that are available right now to give you some practical advice and resources to help you get one of those jobs so that you can go from where you are now to earning a regular income in a relatively short space of time and just as a quick disclaimer these aren’t get-rich-quick schemes they will require a bit of hard work upfront and they won’t make you a millionaire overnight but they can help me to earn anything from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds a month depending on the time and effort you are willing and able to put into them now before I dive into this list of work from home jobs I just want to outline what I’m going to cover in the video and in particular what I’m going to cover about each job and I’ve also put links in the description below the video that you can use to jump to any of these sections if you want to firstly
I’m going to talk about what a good work from home job or remote job really is and in particular what the criteria for the list I’m about to go through or meet and this is important because I want to make sure that I’m covering realistic jobs that anybody watching this kind of same and I also want to make sure that you’re aiming for good opportunities and you’re avoiding some of the common pitfalls that people fall into when looking for a Moute job then I’m going to run from my list of jobs and cover all of the following points what the job involves and what you’ll be expected to do what skills are involved in the job how much you can earn how to get started in the job so what websites you need to approach at any other helpful resources that might help you to get these jobs you’ll notice that a lot of these websites are uk-based but you don’t need to be based in the UK to apply for them so that has hurt you if you’re based outside of the UK and there’s gonna be lots and lots of links in the description to link through to some of these resources that I’m gonna be mentioning so make sure you open that up and while you’re down that way if you wouldn’t mind hitting the like button not only does it help out the channel but allows you to save the video in your likes videos because there’s a lot of information in this video and you’ll probably need to come back to it a later day to review and if you stick around to the end of the video I’m going to throw in a couple of bonus tips around things you need to avoid when applying for remote jobs to make sure that you’re not making any big mistakes they’re gonna cost you later down the line so what is the criteria for a good work from home job that you can get started in quickly well firstly all of the jobs that I’m gonna run through here are what I call a low barrier to entry jobs and what that means is they don’t require you to have previous experience or technical knowledge or qualifications so I’m not just going to say become a web developer because although that’s a very good job in its own right it’s not something you can get started in straightaway it will take years to build up and train and develop the knowledge and skills required to become a web developer so as long as you have a basic grasp of English and a willingness to put in a bit of hard work then you should be able to learn any of these jobs within a relatively short space of time and that of course means that you’ll be able to start generating an income quite quickly and also this list is going to be strictly for jobs and not businesses so I’m not just gonna tell you to go and start your own Amazon business because although that is again a viable way to make money remotely it’s not a job it’s a business it will require you to risk your own money and it could potentially take months or years before you turn a profit not to mention there will be lots of learning to do if you’ve never done it before some of these jobs may be able to be done on a freelance basis which is almost leaning a little bit towards starting their own business but you’ll still have the security of working for a large website or agency which takes away a lot of the hassle and makes things a lot more straightforward for you thirdly all of the jobs on this list have the potential for you to progress within them which means you can develop the skills that are acquired within them which can lead to better opportunities and an increased rate of pay over time which is really beneficial if you are looking to make a full time career or a full time income from remote work so this means I’m not going to be covering things like filling out online surveys or cashback websites because there’s no way to develop the skills within those which means there’s no way to increase the pay rate as time goes on and generally speaking that those things tend to be quite low paid anyway so let’s start looking at these jobs then the first job on this list is a virtual assistant or VA virtual assistants provide admin support to small business owners or sometimes to managers within larger businesses the type of tasks you’ll be doing as a VA will vary a lot depending on the type of employer your work will form what their needs are but generally speaking the type of task we’ll be doing will include things like document formatting organizing emails and responding to emails updating and managing spreadsheets diary management online research for things like articles and presentations and also things like booking flights trains and hotels for business travel so the work can be really varied by I would class the skills needed as general office skills so knowing how to use Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel or Google sheets and Google Docs and then those kind of programs can be really helpful and also having a good knowledge of the main email providers so things like Outlook or Gmail you’ll also need to have a good grasp of the English language and a good ability to provide written communication and to follow briefs a lot of these skills can be learned right here on YouTube there are lots of tutorials on these topics and a quick tip for those of you who struggle with written English or perhaps English is in your first language you can use a spelling and grammar checking tool like grammarly which is a Chrome extension that checks all of your documents all of your emails anything that you send out it highlights the mistakes and shows your Corrections it’s totally free to download and
I’ll put a link for in the description below now the amount of money you can earn as virtual assistant really does depend on who you’re working for the type of tasks you’re doing and how long you’ve been doing it for but the job sites say that the average virtuousness earns around 11 pounds an hour but I’ve also seen some permanent VA jobs going for around 25,000 pounds a year another point worth noting is that virtual assistants are often paid for the tasks they do and not for their time which means if you can get really good at doing certain tasks and start doing them really quickly you could potentially earn a lot more than the average figures so how do you get a job as a virtual assistant well probably the easiest way to get started as a VA is to sign up to a freelance website and start offering some services that youíve already have some experience in or the recently learn here on YouTube signing up to a freelance website like people per hour calm or Fiverr calm is really easy and you’ll find there are lots of small business I there who are looking for virtual assistants to take care of some of their daily tasks now using these freelance sites effectively does require a bit of time and effort and I can actually make a whole video on that if you’d like me to so if you do want me to cover that in another video in more detail please drop a comment below but basically the three things you need to do are you need to make an attractive profile that shows people what you can offer them the kind of va services you can offer you need to search for jobs have been posted by business owners and apply for them by writing proposals and you also need to create your own sort of little mini adverts to show people the kind of services you can offer a business owners can then come and find them and apply to you directly to take you on you can also search for permanent va jobs on the big job websites like CV librarian and zouna they’ll have a few but you’re more likely to find remote jobs like that on sites like Club staff or we work remotely and I’ll put links to those websites in the description of course of course whenever you’re applying for any job online you need a good strong CV to make that right first impression so if you need any advice around that then obviously I have lots of CV advice videos on the channel and I’ve also got lots of the templates resources examples on the standout CV website again link will be in the description the next work from home job on this list is a really popular one in the world of remote work and that is writer and this can be broken down into three categories article writer copy writer and CV writer so let’s take a look at article writer first now article writing involves writing relatively short articles or even blog posts for websites websites are in constant need of content to entertain their readers so there’s a really high demand for this type of work and you can find work writing on just about any topic Under the Sun these days obviously a good level of written English is needed to be an article writer and also an understanding of how to structure a good article and keep readers entertained copywriters are very similar to article writers but they write text specifically for advertisement type material so for sales pages on websites or for leaflets and brochures and things like that so it’s more geared towards encouraging readers to to buy products or sign up for services so again it requires a very good level of written English but also as a copywriter you need to be able to sort of tap into people with emotions and persuade them to take action if you want to improve your writing skills there are lots of information sources out there to help you do that these days online in particular marketing sites like hub spot or copy blogger or really good sources but another really good way to learn how to write well is just to study other writers you probably read lots of articles online so next time you read one you know starts to looking a bit more objectively see how the article is structured and try to learn a bit more about how the writer keeps you interested article and copyright to pay varies a lot but if you’re just starting out at the industry you can probably expect to earn anywhere between three to four pounds per 100 words written which means if you can write a 500 word article in one hour then you’ll earn an average hourly rate of around 17 pounds 50 and I never try to compromise and 20 to 25 K in a permanent role but as you increase your skills of the writer and perhaps start to specialize in certain areas you can really start to increase those pay rates so for example if you were to work your way into becoming a specialist a sales copy writer for technology companies and you could probably own a lot higher rate because the pages you’re writing for will be generating high-value sales for those businesses which means that the employers will be prepared to pay you a much higher rate to write those pages so it’s really about getting stuck in and carving your own pathway if you want to learn the best phrases of writer to get an article or copyright for a job again I would suggest starting with the freelance websites like people per hour like Fiverr com setting up a profile start applying for jobs within those sites and also saying up your own mini adverts to tell people the services that you’re offering first it can be quite tricky to land jobs on these freelance sites when you don’t have any feedback or reviews because the buyers have no ways to trust you to get around this problem start offering work at a really low competitive rates to get some early buyers in and then once you’ve built up some good feedback you can slowly start to increase your rates because once you starts to get a few reviews say that you’ve done good work then other people will start to have more trust in you and you’ll be able to charge higher prices and people want to work with you because they can see that you’ve deliver good results for others you can also sign up to work for a big copywriting agency like copper foil sex broker what they do is I essentially have contracts with large companies to create lots of content and then they hire remote writers to write that content for them so you basically sign up with these agencies buy their websites and you may be required to do a quick test to determine the level of your writing ability and then once you’re signed up they will simply assign you work and give you deadlines and you just have to complete those writing tasks within the deadlines given now the pay does tend to be a little on the low side with these agencies but they can give you lots of regular work and it’s a really good way to get started if you don’t already have some experience and of course you can find permanent and contract remote writing positions on the main job boards and on remote specialist job boards and of course the links are in the description for those ones I’ve mentioned previously and the third type of writing work from home job is CV writer
and this is essentially rewriting people CVS for them to help them get jobs or resumes if you’re in the u.s. there was a surprising amount of demand for this service out there and there were lots of companies offering it and it’s also topic I know quite a lot about because I used to write CDs as a freelance TV writer on people per hour and this eventually led to me starting my own business standard CV com I started off writing CVS for 10 pounds per CV on paper per hour and gradually raised my rates of 100 pounds per CV and then I went on to build my own website and eventually was able to build a full time income and quit my day job and the reason I’m telling you that is because I think there’s lots of potential of any of these jobs if you’re willing to stick with them and dedicate some time and effort to them now you might not want to start a business particularly in the long run but it’s definitely possible to make some big changes to your income and to your lifestyle if you stick with some of these jobs even if some of the starting pay rates don’t seem that impressive so the first thing you need to do to become a CV rise it’s obviously to learn how to write CV and luckily for you I have one of the biggest resources on the internet for that so if you head over to standout CV comm links will be in the description of course I’ve got lots of guides on there lots of example CV templates etc that you can have a look at and you can hopefully learn a good basic understanding of how to write CV from that and then once you’ve done that you can perhaps offer to Reitsma CVS for friends or family just to get a bit of practice before you start looking for paid work so there are a couple of ways you can get started working as a CV writer the first is to sign up with one of the big US or UK CV writing companies like top CV top resume but preceive ECT CV there are lots out there a few google search for CV writing companies you’ll be able to find plenty you’ll sign up with them and they’ll usually have some kind of entrance tests you’ll have to provide your own CV and perhaps some example series of other CV that you’ve done and then once you sign up with them they will then assign you jobs and generally speaking they will pay anywhere between 10 and 40 pounds per CV depending on the types of customers they deal with some of them will want you to interact with the customer directly and run for a consultation process to get the information from them before writing their CV whereas other companies will handle all of the customer interaction and then provide you with a brief and you will then just have to return the CV to the company within a certain deadline unfortunately I’m not hiring a standard CV at the moment if I ever am I will of course an outtie here on youtube you can also provide CV writing services on some of the freelance sites I’ve mentioned earlier like people per hour like Fiverr comm again it’s a simple we’re sending up a profile advertising what you offer and then I would again go with the tactic of starting with low competitive prices to get some early buyers in and then gradually raising your rates as you start to improve your profile by getting more and more feedback from happy customers and of course you might also be able to find some remote CV writing jobs on the major job websites and also the remote job sites as well the next job on this list is a remote English teacher in countries like China and Russia there is big demand for English tutoring because a lot of parents out there want their children to speak English so to fill this demand a big number of companies have popped up offering English tutoring to people in these countries the job involves running online teaching sessions with students and helping them to improve their English fluency via interactions and tests and the work schedule can be arranged flexibly to work around yourself and the students the requirements to do this job will require from companies a company but of course you will need a good command of the English language some companies will also require you to have a degree but certainly not all of them some companies want you to have a TEFL certificate which stands for teaching English foreign language now this could cost you anything from 100 pounds to a few hundred pounds and will take you about a week or so to complete online depending on how you want to take the course but again not all of them ask for this certificate and you don’t need to necessarily speak the customer language but of course that would be beneficial the pay for this job will again depend on who you’re working for on average online English teachers earn anywhere between 11 to 19 pounds an hour to land one of these jobs you just need to apply directly to one of these online English tutoring companies I will of course put links in the description and just make sure that you’re taking all of the requirements that they’re asking for before you apply the next job on this list is data entry now our data entry jobs are really straightforward you’re simply helping companies to process and store their data by taking it from one source and entering into another so as an example of how this might work a company might have lots of old customer records stored on paper somewhere and they need to move at the times and get all of those records onto digital format there you might then go and hire a data entry clerk to read all of those paper records and then move them on to an online database or onto something even simpler like an Excel spreadsheet to get started in data entry you just need to be able to read information accurately and type a fairly quick rate on average data entry work for UK firms pays around 8 pounds an hour but if you can start to move on to slightly more complex data work like data cleansing and data analysis you can start to push that towards 1015 pounds an hour maybe even more depending on the kind of work that you’re doing Microsoft Excel is a really powerful one popular tool for managing and processing data and you can learn lots of clever things to do a bit right here on YouTube and if you can become with Excel
you’ll certainly make yourself more valuable to employers in data rolls especially but also lots of other jobs remote or otherwise the best way to get started in data entry is to pick up small jobs on freelance websites and then start to build relationships with the people that you work for and start to get some ongoing work with them you can also find data entry jobs on the main job boards and the remote job boards but they don’t seem to come up as often so it might be a good idea to set up some job alerts so that you get notified as soon as data entry jobs come out the next job on the list is proofreading and editing so I spoke earlier about writing jobs and I said that there are a lot of businesses out there with websites who need lots of written content for their sites well those businesses also need people to check that that writing is correct and there are no spelling or grammar mistakes and in order to do this they hire proof readers and editors to check the work and make sure it’s perfect before it gets published proofreading and editing obviously requires a very good knowledge of the English language and good attention to detail a lot of companies like their proof readers and editors too from writing backgrounds so you could potentially start off doing some writing work and then gradually work your way up build your experience and then look to move over into a proofreading role or an editing role in the long run on average proof readers tend to earn around 20 pounds an hour but that can be raised quite a lot if you are for example working in a very high-paying industry or dealing with complex subject matter such as scientific research or legal documentation to find proofreading jobs it’s best to look in the same places I mentioned for the writing jobs because anybody who hires lots of writers is probably also going to hire proof readers and editors too so have a look at some of the big agencies is probably a best bet and also on the remote sites and freelance sites to the next job on this list is online customer service now as you know customer service is a big part of most businesses and traditionally customer service agents will be based in offices or in call centers or directly in shop fronts and they will do things like dealing with inquiries handling complaints answering questions etc but these days a lot of businesses have a purely online presence or they simply want to save costs on offices and shops and things like that so this means that they’re hiring remote customer service staff which is creating a lot more remote job opportunities so these jobs would involve all of your standard customer service duties so you might be answering questions over live chat or email or you might be providing technical assistance about certain products over the phone you don’t necessarily need previous customer service experience to do one of these jobs but just having good communication skills and a good way of dealing with people will give you a head start in most cases these jobs tend to pay between eight to ten pounds an hour and you’re going to find them all over the web on the main job web sites on the remote job board and another really good way to find these jobs is looking for big global companies that you know of and looking through their careers pages and searching for remote customer service jobs so that brings me to the end of the jobs list
but before I wrap up this video I just want to show you a couple of things that you should really avoid when looking for remote or work from home jobs number one is get-rich-quick schemes now if you’re doing your own research when you’re looking for work from home jobs and you’re going to be on the site so I’ve showed you which is absolutely a good idea because I’m sure there are plenty more out there then you may find that you come across some dubious offers from shady-looking a site saying things like become a millionaire overnight by trading Bitcoin or earn thousands of dollars a day we any prior experience I’ll have to tell you as a general rule of thumb if it sounds too good to be true it probably is and if you sign up for something like that it will usually be some kind of scam where you’re asked to pay a lot of money for a piece of software or a course that will apparently help you to generate lots of money a short space of time but the reality is it probably won’t work and it will actually leave you in much worse financial situation than you were before you started and that brings me on to the second thing that you should avoid when you’re looking for work from home jobs and that is paying money to the employer if you’re applying for a job and the company is asking you to pay them for the privilege of working for them then that is a huge red flag it even just means that the company are very unprofessional I’m doing very well financially or at worst they might be trying to profit from job applicants so if a company asked you to pay them even one penny I would walk away instantly now there may of course be instances where you’re required to have a qualification or some kind of background check that needs to be paid for but really that should be paid to the external body that run those things and not to the employer that you’ll be working for so that brings me to the end of the video I really hope you found it helpful if you have done I’d love if you can leave a comment below especially if you’ve tried one of these jobs and found some success with it it’ll be great for myself and also for other viewers to hear how you’ve done it and also don’t forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel for more advice on finding good jobs and maximizing your income so thanks for watching and best of luck with finding a work from home job [Music]
what’s up entrepreneurs now starting a side hustle can be one of the most rewarding things you can do not only because you can make a little bit of extra cash on the side but also because it can really help fuel your entrepreneurial engine especially if you’ve got a job at the same time not only that but some of the side hustles i’m about to show you can and have turned into six figure incomes for entrepreneurs in the past and i’m hoping after watching this video you’ll be able to do it yourself hey by the way if you’re new to my channel i just want to say a big welcome i make easy to follow videos on things like starting online businesses making money online affiliate marketing personal finance and more my goal on this channel is to help you build multiple streams of passive income which is something that i’ve been fortunate enough to do myself so if you’re into any of these topics please subscribe now and i’d also love it if you could hit that like button on this video as it really helps out this channel so let’s jump into it now and take a look at some of the best side hustles you can do from the comfort of your very own home so let’s start off with number five which is selling on fiverr.com now if you’ve never heard of fibre.com where have you been hiding because it is taking off like wildfire at the moment so what is fibre well originally fibre used to be a place where you could go and buy things for five dollars you could go and get a logo done for five dollars you get someone to write an essay for you for five dollars but the great thing for people like you for entrepreneurs like you the great thing is now is that you don’t have to restrict yourself to just providing services for five dollars because you’re probably saying chris i don’t want to work for five dollars i can go and do pizza delivery for five dollars an hour and you know do that well the great thing with fiverr is that you can actually charge as much as you want so the way it works with fiverr is they’ve got a thing called gigs so each gig is worth like five dollars and say you’re really good at creating logos you can offer it for ten fiverr gigs which is going to be worth fifty dollars and you there really is no limit to how much you can offer i know some people who are offering gigs which are worth a thousand dollars you know 200 different gigs and they’re making a lot of money doing some premium kind of work the great thing with fiverr is that there are so many things that you can do if you ever go over to fiverr you can go and have a look and see just some of the crazy things people are willing to do and are also making a lot of money doing uh just through the website you might think okay yeah i could do some you know some normal things and you really can do normal things if you’re good at doing a logo design you can do that maybe offer it for twenty different gigs and you make fifty dollars off it or
you make a hundred dollars of it or you could do some writing so let’s say you’re good at writing you could help someone out with a blog post maybe it’s going to be 200 words and you can get done paid for that but there are some really crazy things that are actually on fiverr as well if you ever look up pewdiepie’s kind of fiber issues he had you’ll see the incredible things people are getting paid to do but i wanted to show one example for you was this guy who literally dresses up like a clown and he will wish people happy birthday and it’s so stupid he does it with like a stupid song and he looks like an absolute idiot but the thing is this guy’s making back so he’s charging around about fifty dollars to do this for each five a gig and you can imagine he’s probably doing you know ten of these a day he’s probably making around about five hundred dollars a day just wishing people happy birthday so if he can do it you can do it as well there are so many things that you can do on fiverr so coming in at number four is to sell things on places like ebay craigslist and facebook marketplace which you found at places like walmart kmart in the clearance section so the way that this works is it’s a huge thing that’s kind of popping up these days a lot of people are kind of catching on to the idea that you can get things really cheap in clearance sections at places like like i said walmart kmart target and then you can resell these to other people at a higher price and make a good profit off it and to me this is a real side hustle for real entrepreneurs the ones who like to do the kind of the dirty work and make a good profit flipping items so the best places to sell your items are generally going to be on facebook marketplace or craigslist now i know i said before ebay but there are a few caveats with that the first reason is that ebay takes a lot of fees so you really have to be cautious about this because it can easily eat into your profit margin so ebay for example charges around about 10 on every item you sell on the total price so say you sell something for 30 they’re gonna take three dollars off that now that might not seem like a lot but it does add up on top of that you’re also going to be probably paying through paypal and paypal take around about three percent as well so you’re going to be having 13 off your total margin already which is not so good instead what i’d recommend is selling on facebook marketplace or craigslist the reason for this is that it’s generally going to be a in-person sale you’re going to be selling they might come to your home or you go to like a gas station or something and sell it there then it’s going to be a cash payment or you’re going to use something like venmo or the cash app so that’s probably going to be a better option because you’re really going to be able to increase your profits and save more money for me the best place to actually source the items like i said before is at places like walmart and
target i’ve generally found that walmart is the one that has the better kind of clearance items you can often get items that are worth you know 25 35 40 for around about three dollars and this is because they’re doing stock tag they’re trying to get rid of their stuff they’re clearing it out so they can bring in new stuff or they ordered too much of it and they didn’t end up selling it so what you really want to do is go and look for all of the items that look like they’re worth a little bit more make sure that they’re nice and cheap and a real good tip is to actually get the walmart app because the walmart app if you scan the barcode you can actually get much better prices than what’s actually on the sticker sometimes the sticker might say it’s worth five dollars when in actual fact it’s they’re giving it away for like one dollar so always get the walmart app now one other place that you can do this is also at places like goodwill and other charity shops and i’m kind of in two minds with this but generally i think it’s a good idea to do this because the way that it works with goodwill and charity shops is that you’re helping them out so people are coming in and donating these these items that they don’t need anymore and then when you buy these items from goodwill you’re supporting them they get to keep the money everyone wins because you’re also going to be able to profit on these items and continue to you know help them out and buy more items as you get more successful next up is to drive on uber now this is a classic one and it’s only going to work if you’ve got a car but if you’ve got a car and you don’t have anything else to do this is a great side hustle you can do when you’ve got a little bit of free time and it’s actually a really good time to be doing this because of all of the issues that are going on in the world i don’t think i need to say anything about that but the reason is because people aren’t actually going out and doing it so the competition is so much less so you can make a whole lot more money of course i’d highly recommend being really you know careful wear a mask if you have to do that in your country you know be have good social distancing between people but like i said before because a lot of people are kind of afraid of the whole thing that’s going on at the moment if you can go out and do it you’re going to have a lot less competition so you can make a whole lot more money i’d really recommend when you’re doing anything with uber is to really up your game as much as you can so you can get those good ratings and reviews because that’s what really means the people who earn a lot more money they always have good ratings so make sure that you’re offering free water bottles you know you can get bottled water for like 20 cents or something like that you can also offer things like mentos and mints and candy and things like that give that away for free up the service become a better entrepreneur and that way you’re going to be able to get more clients and then make more money with uber so coming in at number two is to become a virtual assistant and i absolutely love this one because pretty much everyone can do this you know you don’t have to have a car you don’t have to have any kind of skill really you can just help people out doing whatever they need to do so i actually have a virtual assistant hopefully she’s watching hey lena nice to see you elena has been really helping me out with my videos helping me with research helping with my emails and calendars and things like that and that’s essentially what you would do as a virtual assistant what we do is we jump onto a zoom call or you could do a skype call a facetime call then we use things like google docs and you know google sheets and you can just use excel and things like that and you know you work together just virtually there’s no real difference to working in an office as to working on a computer
this is a really great side hustle if you’re kind of tired at home maybe you’ve got a baby maybe you’ve got different reasons as to why you can’t actually work or you can even do virtual assisting after your job especially if you’re in a country different to the country that the person’s in so say someone’s in england and then you’re in america and you need you can work after your job that’ll be like morning time for them so it works really well and the thing is a lot of work is moving online it’s totally normal now for everyone to expect that uh working is online everyone’s kind of cus accustomed to using microsoft teams everyone’s accustomed to using zoom calls you can totally do it not only that you can make plenty of money being a virtual assistant i pay my virtual assistant around about 30 an hour to help me out like i said with just you know basic things like emails and calendars and stuff like that but i’ve got a little tip for you if you can learn how to do a little bit of basic book keeping which is essentially helping people kind of file their expenses and income for their business you will get paid a whole lot more also if you know how to write relatively well that’ll also help and if you know how to do social media relatively well you can really increase the amount of money that you’re going to be getting paid so rather than getting paid 15 an hour as a virtual assistant you can get paid those high numbers 25 an hour 30 an hour all for the comfort of your home all right i’ve got a bonus one coming up which i think is really good but coming in at number one before we get into the bonus is food delivery and another one of these ones which you’re probably thinking yeah i know that’s a side hustle but definitely i definitely think at the moment that this is one that you should give a go the great thing with this is that you don’t need a car you can use a bike you can even use a scooter and especially in these times again with coronavirus you know being pretty big and in the winter no one wants to do it so there’s so much work available and if you can get the work available and you can get the work done you can make a whole lot of money and it’s really funny though because you would think that in these times people would be jumping onto these services but the truth is they’re not really jumping into these services so there is a lot less competition than before and it’s not as if you’re going to be having any kind of issues
because these days pretty much every company is kind of encouraging the whole you know ring the doorbell and leave you don’t have to have the face-to-face communication so you’re not going to have any issues so if you’ve got a bike if you like to walk if you have a scooter or something or electric scooter i’d highly recommend doing food delivery as a good side hustle so for those of you who stuck around you get the bonus one which i think is actually probably one of the best and it’s actually managing social media for small businesses so if you know anyone who owns so most of us know someone who owns a small business and if you don’t know anyone who owns a small business i’m sure that there’s plenty of small businesses in your local town or on the street nearby you and a lot of them are really craving uh to get online but they don’t know how to do it and the reason for this is because a lot of them are older you know most small business owners uh you know in their 40s their 50s their 60s or even in their 70s and they have no idea how to use social media but they know and they keep on hearing that they need to get onto social media so if you know how to use tiktok you know how to use instagram you know how to use youtube you can go to them and say look i’ll update your business tick tock i’ll update your business youtube instagram facebook page and i’ll do it for a monthly fee let’s say 300 a month 500 a month they’ve got this disposable income which they can you know write off as a tax expense and you can do their social media for them and what i would recommend is trying to get a few different accounts so like i said before you can maybe make 300 a month from one business and then you get another one coming in so let’s say you’ve got three different businesses who you’re doing your social media that’s 900 900 extra a month that you’re making and it’s recurring revenue so you’re going to be having this recurring in income all you’re doing is literally posting a few pictures on instagram maybe helping them make a few videos on youtube it’s totally up to you so there you go guys they were some of my favorite side hustles you can do from the comfort of your own home make sure to get your comment in for the question of the day i want to hear about what your favorite side hustles are and also make sure to smash the like button because that’s always appreciated here on this channel good luck everyone and i’ll see you next time
